Job Description

his new position is responsible to explore novel concept in IOL design, identify opportunities in IOL, propose innovation and feasible solutions, propose and lead both innovative and traditional feasibility tests for new IOL concept evaluation and/or validation. The successful applicant is expected to focus more on observation and finding questions, which could be translated into the industry’s ‘unmet needs’.

 

To explore and propose novel concept in IOL design

  • Explore novel concepts by conducting literature search, analyzing surgeon performance data, patient compliant data, market surveillance reports, market news, etc.
  • Propose potential solutions and concepts based on current know-hows and internal data

To evaluate ‘Quality’ of new concept

  • Evaluate concept in different aspects, including but not limited to technical feasibility, surgeon’s and patient’s clinical and financial benefits, and potential business size
  • Propose and lead both innovative and conventional tests for new solutions evaluation and/or validation
  • Analyze test results and produce final reports
  • Select suitable potential external collaborators and to manage them both administratively and technically
  • Lead the study when it involves multiple team members

To propose validated new concept

  • Contribute to the Target Product Profile (TPP) document
  • Present technical outcomes and business insights to the R&D team and in other relevant meetings

 

Other responsibilities including brief assignments working with other departments as support function.

 

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Optical Design and Development using ZEMAX, CodeV, or similar tool

 

Education

  • Bachelor/Master’s degree in physical Optics/Mechanical/Product Design Engineering or other related fields. PhD preferred

 

Skills

  • Knowledge and experience in ophthalmology and IOL research
  • Ability to deal with undefined problems
  • Excellent communication, verbal and written
  • Ability to communicate in Japanese is a plus

 

Travel Requirements

  • 10-15% for knowledge exchanges, conferences and business assignments
