Bruno Chermette MD

President, EMEA, Americas & APAC

Bruno Chermette joined HOYA Surgical Optics as Managing Director, EMEA and later was promoted to President, EMEA, Americas & APAC. He has recently been appointed interim CEO of HOYA Surgical Optics.

He has brought rapid change and sustainable growth to many leading ophthalmic device companies. During his more than 20 years as a senior executive and leader in the ophthalmic industry, Bruno gained experience leading companies in the U.S., Spain, France, and Latin America. He has held senior executive positions at Chiron Vision Care S.A., Bausch + Lomb S.A., and Zeiss Meditec S.A. Most recently, he was President & CEO of FCI.

Bruno holds a Medical Doctorate from Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 and an MBA from E.M. Lyon.

Yasuro Mori

Chief Financial Officer

Yasuro Mori has more than 30 years of experience in various business units of HOYA Corporation, such as the Vision Care Divisions and Photomask Blanks Division. During his last 25 years as an executive and leader in Thailand, Malaysia and the U.S., Yasuro has overseen the increased financial strength of the company through plant management and rapid growth in the regions.

Before joining HOYA Surgical Optics, he was Managing Director of HOYA Electronics Malaysia, which manufactures Photomask Blanks for the production of LCD panels. His unique and extensive experience led to global rapid growth and financial strength within the multicultural organization.

Yasuro holds a Bachelor degree in Administrative Engineering from Keio University in Tokyo, Japan.

Robert Anello

Vice President, New Product Strategy

Bob Anello brings a wealth of knowledge and successful global experience in the ophthalmology industry. He has a unique portfolio of experiences within sales, marketing, clinical & regulatory affairs, and product development areas of the ophthalmic medical device industry.

Bob’s passionate and entrepreneurial approach to the ophthalmology business has fostered success in both large global companies and smaller start-up firms. He began his 25-year career in the ophthalmic surgical business with The New York Eye Surgery Center as a Clinical Research Manager and continued to further his career in positions of increasing responsibility and global leadership with IOLAB, STAAR Surgical, Intralase, and Bausch + Lomb. Most recently, he led the Americas’ Regional Business for Technolas Perfect Vision, a joint venture spinoff from Bausch + Lomb, in the position of Vice President, Commercial Operations.

Bob holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where his thesis work focused on elucidating the mechanisms of cataract formation, and a Master’s degree in Physics from Stony Brook University in New York.

Takashi Ichinohe, Ph.D.

Head of Process & Technology (R&D)

Takashi Ichinohe has more than 15 years of experience in engineering, research & development, and project management. He joined HOYA Surgical Optics in 2003 as an Engineer specializing in the development of intraocular lens inserters. He has also served as a Project Manager to supervise the development of new products. Most recently, Takashi has been appointed Head of Process & Technology (R&D).

Before joining HOYA Surgical Optics, Takashi worked at Canon Staar Co., Inc. as a Senior Engineer for IOL material development.

Takashi holds a Bachelor of Science degree and Master of Science degree in Polymer Science and a Ph.D. in Bioengineering from Shinshu University.

Junichi Kakugo

General Manager & President, Japan

Junichi Kakugo has more than 30 years of experience in the eye care industry, both in health care and medical related products. Since he joined HOYA Corporation, he has shown strong leadership as West Japan Sales General Manager for the Vision Care division and as the Managing Director in the multicultural environments of Malaysia and Australia for four years.

Junichi has brought his years of successful sales, sales management and marketing experiences in the industry to lead the sustainable growth of the HOYA Surgical Optics IOL business.

Junichi’s contributions have also expanded outside of Japan. His strong leadership has led to successful business launches in China, Australia, and India.

Junichi holds an LLB (Bachelor of Laws) from Meiji Gakuin University.

Tom Lee

Director, Global Supply Chain

Tom brings over 20 years of leadership experience to HOYA Surgical Optics, primarily from multi-national, high-tech manufacturing organizations. He has worked in over 30 countries managing complex processes across multiple business functions from start-up operations to global organizations.

Tom’s experience includes senior executive level supply chain operational positions at Dell in Asia-Pacific and Japan – where he led a regional procurement organization of over 60 professionals with budget responsibility for over US$1 billion in procurement spending. He is an effective change management leader, implementing re-engineering, low cost country outsourcing, driving standardized global metrics across the organization, policies, and negotiations.

In his spare time, Tom enjoys soccer, fishing, and cooking for friends and family. He holds a BA in Economics from Columbia University.

Moon Lor

Director, Global Human Resources

Moon Lor brings a wealth of experience to HOYA Surgical Optics as Director of Global Human Resources. Prior to joining HOYA Surgical Optics, she held various leadership positions in multinational organizations such as Firmenich Asia, Abbott Laboratories, GlaxoSmithKline and Honeywell, spanning the Pharmaceutical/Life Sciences, Flavors and Fragrance, and High Tech industries. Moon has demonstrated strong leadership through the successful implementation of global and regional projects in Talent Management, Employee Engagement, Change Management, and Employee Value Proposition. She has led Six Sigma projects for GlaxoSmithKline and Honeywell, and was certified as a Green Belt in both organizations.

Moon holds a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree and a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A) degree in Human Resource Management from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Oklahoma.

John Scholl

Senior Director, Project Management & Intellectual Property

John Scholl brings 30 years of medical implant product development experience to HOYA. A three-year veteran with HSO, he now serves HOYA Surgical Optics by leading project management activities for new product commercialization and strategic management of the patent portfolio.

John’s diverse background as a development engineer contributed to implantable product designs and new surgical procedures in orthopedic, cardiovascular and GI products along with minimally invasive surgical tools for cancer diagnosis and treatment. He has been a R&D senior manager or Vice President in the ophthalmic field for most of the last twenty years developing implants for refractive surgery, accommodating IOLs and drug delivery with KeraVision, PowerVision, and others. In those roles, he has hired and led R&D teams and managed cross-functional project activities leading to new product launches and significant financing milestones for startup companies.

John holds a master’s degree in chemical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, was certified as a Project Management Professional, and is an inventor on 19 U.S. patents.

Hirofumi Suzuki

Senior Manager, Research & Development

Hirofumi Suzuki’s career started in the IT service industry where he left to pursue new challenges at the HOYA Corporation in the industries of Vision Care and Optics. For over 10 years, he has managed Technology and Development in the Ukima R&D Center in Japan as a Senior Manager. He has been passionate about and committed to various IOL and IOL-related product development/improvement projects.

Hirofumi led the development of the iMics1™ (NY-60) IOL, and he and his team launched the product to the global market. He managed both product development and process development as a member of the project management team. Through this experience, he gained extensive knowledge of IOL and IOL-related products and industrial needs, not only as a development engineer, but also as a project manager.

Hirofumi holds a Bachelor of Science in Management Engineering from Tokyo University of Science.

Zilong Wang

Vice President, Global Information Technology

Zilong Wang brings a wealth of deep expertise in information technology and extensive experience in managing highly diverse and virtual global IT teams. He has solid experience and relentless focus in driving operational excellence and applying innovation to enable business transformation.

In his previous position with Eli Lilly as regional IT head (Emerging Markets), Zilong spearheaded many regional IT strategies (e.g., IT support center of excellence, IT virtualization and consolidation, e-hosting services) to advance IT capabilities and build a highly capable and customer-focused IT organization. As such, he received the Global Sustained Impact Individual award – the most prestigious global IT award within Eli Lilly.

Zilong leads by example in providing great technological leadership and driving close business partnerships to make significant impacts on business results. He has a proven track record of exceptional leadership skills and has consistently worked across large geographies, leading teams to support a US$4-5 billion region from APAC, Japan, China, Russia, Turkey to Middle East, and Africa. He brings nearly 20 years of IT experience from the Banking, Information Technology, and Pharmaceutical industries.

Zilong holds a Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from Zhejiang University and an MBA from National University of Singapore.

James Wartman

Vice President, Global Regulatory Affairs

James Wartman joined HOYA Surgical Optics in 2009. Since this time, James has led efforts to standardize systems and improve processes across all regions, managed several successful FDA and ISO compliance audits, secured multiple international regulatory approvals, and managed U.S. clinical studies. Most recently, he and his team completed a class III device clinical study in the U.S., assembled a compelling PMA, and gained FDA approval ahead of schedule.

Prior to joining HOYA, James spent nearly 20 years in the medical device and pharmaceutical industry serving in senior management positions ranging from RA/QA to operations. His unique blend of technical operations experience and lean enterprise has contributed to his success in designing efficient quality systems and building concise regulatory submissions.

James holds a Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management from Long Beach State University and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Regulatory Affairs at San Diego State University.

Krip Punja

General Manager, Operations of HMSP

Krip has been with Hoya Surgical Optics since 2011.During this time he has assisted Hoya in setting up Global Headquarters in Singapore and various operations related initiatives.As General Manager, Krip is responsible for overseeing operations including Production, Process & Technology, Engineering/EHS, Raw Materials Procurement, Quality, Human Resources, Finance, and Information Systems to optimally meet global demand.
Krip brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in Ophthalmology.Prior to joining Hoya, Krip’s experience included running his technical consulting firm, Director of Platform Development at Surmodics, California and Director of pipeline products at Abbot Labs and at Allergan, Inc.
Krip has a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Central Florida and an Executive MBA Degree from Claremont McKenna in California.His patents include devices for implantation of drug delivery devices.
